Speed Up Your Satellite Internet Connection

Satellite Internet gives you high speed Internet access. Compared to dial-up Internet, satellite is 30 times faster, which means it competes with DSL and cable because of the speed and because it’s “always on.”
Many rural areas do not have DSL or cable, which means satellite and the high speed Internet access it brings is greatly appreciated. Rural businesses and residences should be able to access satellite high speed Internet as long as they have a clear view of the southern sky.
As with most high speed Internet services, satellite Internet does have a drawback or two. Latency, or a delay, is inherent to satellite Internet, and extreme weather could disrupt satellite Internet momentarily. VOIP and online gaming cannot be done on satellite Internet because of that few second delay.
Despite these limitations, overall Internet access is fast, and will be even faster if you do the following.
Your computer should run on a newer operating system.
Get online and update the web browser you prefer using.
If you have a wireless network, password protect the network.
Check your anti-virus software to be sure the software has not expired.
Check with your satellite Internet provider about a tool you can download to maximize your online experience. This tool is often called an optimizer.
How an optimization tool will help with satellite Internet speed
An “optimizer” is essentially a proxy setting that ensures you have an ideal web surfing experience. It’s recommended, not required, that you install the optimizer. If you call your satellite Internet provider with troubleshooting issues, it’s likely they will ask you to install the optimizer at that time.
